Job Title: Lead GSRP/Kindergarten Teacher

Location: Nottawa Community School, Nottawa, MI
Position Type: Full-Time
Start Date: As Per Contract 2025/2026 School Year

 

Position Overview:
Nottawa Community School is seeking a passionate, dedicated, and highly qualified teacher to serve as the Lead GSRP (Great Start Readiness Program) Teacher in the mornings and a Kindergarten Teacher in the afternoons. This unique, full-time role offers the opportunity to work with young learners during critical stages of their early development in a supportive, community-focused environment.

Essential Duties:

• Establishes and maintains a positive, respectful classroom environment by implementing clear expectations and utilizing a positive behavior support system.
• Utilizes a variety of teaching strategies within a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) to promote student success.
• Identifies individual student needs and collaborates with staff to implement appropriate supports, including referrals and contributions to individualized education plans (IEPs) when necessary.
• Oversees and coordinates the activities of paraprofessionals, associate teachers and volunteers in the classroom and during field trips.
• Carry out duties under the supervision of the Early Childhood Administrator.
• Other duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities:

Morning (GSRP Lead Teacher):

• Implement a high-quality preschool program following GSRP guidelines and curriculum.
• Develop and maintain a positive, developmentally appropriate classroom environment for 4-year-olds.
• Collaborate with an associate teacher to ensure effective instruction and supervision.
• Conduct child assessments and maintain accurate documentation.
• Engage families in their child’s learning and development through regular communication and family involvement activities.

Afternoon (Kindergarten Teacher):

• Provide engaging and developmentally appropriate instruction aligned with Michigan state standards.
• Foster a nurturing, structured classroom that promotes academic and social-emotional growth.
• Design and implement lessons across core subject areas.
• Monitor student progress and adjust instruction to meet individual needs.
• Communicate regularly with families about student progress and classroom activities.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or a related field.
• Valid Michigan teaching certificate with appropriate endorsements (ZA/ZS preferred for GSRP).
• Meets all GSRP lead teacher requirements per Michigan Department of Education.
• Experience working with preschool and/or Kindergarten-aged children.
• Strong interpersonal skills, a collaborative mindset, and a passion for early childhood education.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in education or related field.
• Familiarity with Creative Curriculum, COR Advantage, and GSRP compliance procedures.
• Bilingual skills are a plus.
