Job Title: Young 5's Kindergarten Teacher
Location: Nottawa, Michigan
Position Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Building Principal

 

Position Overview

 

Nottawa Community School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Young 5’s Kindergarten Teacher to join our early childhood education team. The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of early childhood development and a passion for creating a nurturing, play-based learning environment.  This role involves implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum and instructional strategies that support the academic, social, and emotional growth of young learners, preparing them for a successful transition into kindergarten and beyond.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Curriculum Implementation: Develop and deliver engaging lesson plans aligned with Michigan's Early Childhood Standards of Quality and district-approved curricula.
  • Instructional Strategies: Utilize a variety of teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles and needs, including individualized and small-group instruction.
  • Classroom Environment: Establish and maintain a safe, inclusive, and positive classroom atmosphere that encourages student participation and respect.
  • Assessment and Evaluation: Monitor and assess student progress using formative and summative assessments; maintain accurate records and communicate findings with parents and staff.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with colleagues, support staff, and administration to enhance instructional practices and student outcomes.
  • Parental Engagement: Foster strong relationships with parents and guardians through regular communication, conferences, and involvement in classroom activities.
  • Professional Development: Participate in ongoing professional learning opportunities to stay current with best practices in early childhood education.

 

Qualifications

 

Required:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or Early Childhood Education.

  • Certification: Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsements (e.g., ZS, ZA, ZG, or ZK).
  • Experience: Demonstrated experience working with young learners in early childhood or
  • Kindergarten settings.
  • Skills: Strong knowledge of child development and early learning best practices.
  • Effective classroom management strategies tailored to young children.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on collaboration, communication, and building relationships with students and families.

 

Preferred:

 

Experience: Five or more years of experience teaching in early childhood or Kindergarten settings.
Additional Skills:

  • Experience supporting diverse learners, including students with IEPs or English Language Learners.
  • Familiarity with play-based and developmentally appropriate instructional practices.
  • Willingness to engage in school-wide activities and collaborate across grade levels.
  • Compensation and Benefits: Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience and salary schedule per NEA/MEA collective bargaining agreement.
