TITLE: Bus Driver - Substitute

 

GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Bus Driver is responsible for the safe transporting of students of Nottawa Community School. Other duties involve managing the operation of the bus to ensure a safe and hazard free environment for all students.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Required: High school diploma or equivalent, CPR/AED, first aid training and other training as required (will be provided if needed). 
  1. Commercial Driver’s License appropriate for pupil transportation is necessary. 
  1. Must pass a criminal record check and drug and alcohol testing. 
  1. Excellent driving record. 
  1. Ability to meet Department of Transportation physical examination requirements. 
  1. For Applicants to whom the District extends an offer of employment, the District will provide paid training.  It will be the performance responsibility of employee to pass/obtain and maintain all training(s), certificate(s), approval(s), etc. and provide documentation necessary to the business office before expiration date of said document(s). 
  1. Required to have a physical presence at the designated job site each scheduled work day. 
  1. Must have regular and reliable job attendance, performance and the physical ability to do the job.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. To meet the requirements and follow the rules and regulations as established by the Michigan Department of Education and the school district. 
  1. To obey all laws governing the operation of a vehicle and/or a school bus. 
  1. Drive a school bus according to a designated route and schedule. Participate in determining route and time changes, when necessary. 
  1. Operate a bus in various traffic, weather, and road conditions with the safety of students as the priority. 
  1. Supervise students while driving, maintain a safe and orderly atmosphere on the bus.
  2. Communicate with building principal regarding student behavior or medical and safety issues. 
  1. Maintain the bus in a clean and orderly condition, sweep and empty trash.
  2. Refuel the bus, when necessary. 
  1. Responsible for the bus, bus equipment, bus passengers. 
  1. Must complete daily pre-trip inspection of the vehicle and must immediately report needed repairs. 
  1. Must follow the cell phone policy. 
  1. Certified in CPR/AED, first aid training and other training as required (will be provided if needed). 
  1. To be at assigned work site at stated starting times, ready to perform assigned duties. 
  1. To keep all student, parent and staff information confidential. 
  1. To have a positive attitude in working with students, parents, community members and other staff members. 
  1. To prepare and maintain route sheets, if needed. 
  1. To prepare reports and keep all required records. 
  1. To prepare "Accident Report" after any accident involving the bus and/or school bus passengers. 
  1. Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal/Superintendent.

 

REPORTS TO: Superintendent

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and conditions of employment are determined as per contract.
